You will need
250gm sugar paste
1/2 tsp of tylo/cmc powder
Edible glue
Progel colours grey, purple & black
Stick of dry spaghetti
Small ball tool
Cocktail stick ( optional )
Let's get started
Prepare your sugar paste by kneading in the tylo powder this will strengthen the sugar paste and your model will dry harder.
Colour 2 small balls of paste one purple and the other black.
Next take a tiny ball from the remaining paste and leave this white. Colour the rest with the grey progel and divide into balls has shown.
Keep the sugar paste in a zip lock bag so the paste doesn't dry out while you are working.
Using the biggest ball roll the paste into an egg shape ensuring the paste is smooth with no cracks. Indent the top of the egg with your finger. ( this will help keep the head in place )
Using 2 pieces from the smaller balls roll out 2 sausage shapes and taper at one end this will be his front legs. Use the cocktail stick to make 2 small indents on each piece to create his toes.
Using edible glue attach to the body pushing gently to flatten out a little at the top.
For the back legs roll out 2 sausage shapes and indent the same has you did for the front legs. Trim some sugar paste off the top of each leg so his back legs are more proportional to his body and using your thumb press down and flatten out has shown.
Take the second biggest piece of paste roll into a ball and taper out to create a trunk.
With the ball tool indent 2 eyes and one on top of his head.
Attach the head to the body using a little edible glue ( you can insert a stick of dry spaghetti into the body for extra support for the head. )
If you want your baby elephant to have eyelashes do this before you attach the eyes by using a cocktail stick to indent 2 small lines on each eye.
The tuft of hair is made by rolling 5 or 6 thin tapered sausage shapes.
Then attach them together at the bottom by gently squeezing and rolling between your fingers. Trim off the excess paste so the little tuft fits into the hole on top of his head, apply a little edible glue in the hole and using a cocktail stick gently push the tuft into place.
Roll 2 small balls from the black paste for his eyes ( check to see if they fit into the indents ) before fixing in place with edible glue.
Using the 2 remaining balls of grey sugar paste roll out 2 balls and flatten with your finger to create a circle. Do the same with the purple balls and place in the centre of the grey circles to make his ears. Attach the ears to the back of the head with edible glue and check they are positioned correctly before pressing them firmly in place.
Finally... Roll 12 tiny balls from the White paste and attach one to the end of each toe.
